"Challenges in Structural Integrity of Composite Materials" (30 minutes)

This presentation will discuss the currently used phenomenological failure theories for composite materials and argue why this approach to structural integrity is not reliable. To ease the current burden of composite structure certification , and to produce cost effective designs, an alternative approach to multi scale modeling is needed. A roadmap to achieve this goal will be presented.
