Dr. Zureick is a leading authority on the use of innovative materials in civil engineering applications. He is professor of Structural Engineering, Mechanics, and Materials at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech.  Dr. Zureick earned his BCE from Tishreen University, Syria in 1978 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1982 and 1985, respectively. For the past 33 years, Professor Zureick has directed his efforts toward new leading-edge research and development topics that included integrated analytical and full-scale experiments to develop criteria and specifications for the design, testing and construction of advanced polymer composite structural systems. The results of his efforts had a major impact on both the state-of the-art and the state of practice, and resulted in the development of a number of national design guidelines and standards that include ASTM D7290, ASTM A1069, AASHTO MP 22-13 Standard specification for Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composite Materials for Highway and Bridge Structures, and the AASHTO Guide Specifications for Design of Bonded FRP Systems for Repair and Strengthening of Concrete Bridge Elements. Professor Zureick is an active member of the SEI/ASCE Fiber Composites and Polymer Standards and was the founder and first Chair of ASTM D30 Subcommittee on Composites for Civil and Marine Applications.

Professor Zureick serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Composites for Construction and of the Structural Engineering and Mechanics. He has frequently served as a consultant, an expert witness, an invited speaker, and a panelist on behalf of a number of Federal, State, and private organizations in the United States and around the world. He is the recipient of numerous awards notably among them is the 1989 ASCE Norman Medal, the highest honor granted by the American Society of Civil Engineers for a technical paper judged worthy of special commendation for its merit as a contribution to the Engineering Science.
